2012

Actually, I was supposed to watch Saw VI which I tactically avoid watching by telling Simon that I don't like to watch movies with no sense and plot. Just like the Final Destination series, most pay to watch people die in all kinds of way. Which occurs to me that it could be quite sadistic. But 2012 is worth the money and every tear I shed. Well, it was much emotionally driving than World Trade Centre for me.

Well, the similarity to a previous end-of-the-world movie, Knowing, is that our great sun gave a very loud fart. Yes, the same global warming but it didn't end like Knowing did. 2012 is based on a much scientific grounds rather than Knowing being a bit supernatural. The sun's fart causes our Earth's core to heat up causing physical changes to our continental plates. Our plates can't hold themselves together anymore and started to shift thus causing massive earthquakes and giant tsunamis. In terms of any disaster movies I watched, this movie gonna be epic for me. Buildings collapsed like they were made of sand. Destruction was inevitable anywhere and everywhere. People being tossed around and killed amidst the chaos. One really awesome part of the movie is that Hamilton and his family managed to escape in a small plane from a collapsing runway and the plane actually flew and avoided collapsing buildings. Then a subway train burst out of its tunnel which was levered to the surface and it flew over the plane and crashed below. Not to mention seeing large gaps in cities and whole areas of land sink.

Now comes the emotional scenes. I swear I could hear a lady behind me sobbing while I was also crying but not to her extent. There's a lot of emotional references like a father and son's last conversation, a father and a daughter's attempt to understand each other and a family which never got the chance to say goodbye. There's quite a lot of moments you will feel pity for the characters in the movie. One emotional scene for me is that a friend called another to bid farewell knowing his demise was near. Then, he embraced his own family waiting for death to come. It's rare for me to watch men cry in a movie but for 2012, it's a norm. Tough men do cry when in pain. And in this case, losing someone he loves and likes. People also made sacrifices so that others can survive.

The movie do have some light-hearted scenes like the chicken scene. A young Tibet monk tried to coax his grandparents to evacuate as his grandmother was trying to decapitate a chicken. The monk mentioned about a faux about a dam which the chicken responds as if it was in shock hearing the news. Of course, it made its last scream before its head finally rolls. LOL.

Well, it does have a feel of Noah's Ark at the end but it really gets me thinking. Actually, I feel anyone who watch it will come out of the cinema thinking too. Supposedly if 2012 is really the end of the world, are you going to have the same regrets like the characters in the movie? Is there someone or something you could have resolved with while you can? Is there someone or something you failed to cherish? Think about it and you may find what you have been missing.

Hope I didn't spoil the show much but it's worth to watch again for me. Oh ya, I got a shock in my life when I saw Simon buy a $399 PSU. Well, so much to his powerful PC. -_-
